Ever feel like your user identities are living a messy double life? Cloud? On-prem? They’re everywhere, causing more confusion than a protocol droid lost in a Cloud City server room. But fear not, tech warriors, for today’s secret weapon is a hybrid of Jedi mind tricks and starship syncing!
Imagine this: Your cloud user, lonely and adrift in the Azure sky, yearns for the solid ground of an on-prem account. Hard Matching lets you play Gandalf the Grey, whispering sweet nothings to Microsoft 365, convincing it that your Cloud Luke Skywalker is actually On-Prem Leia Organa in disguise. Boom, one united identity!
But hold on, there’s a Death Star-sized twist! If Leia (bless her Rebel heart) has both a cloud and on-prem mailbox, you’ve got a tough choice. Cloud cruiser or dusty on-prem Carbonite chamber? My vote? Ditch the on-prem Exchange echo chamber and go full cloud! Trust me, on-prem email is like using a communicator with a busted antenna – glitchy, frustrating, and guaranteed to send shivers down your spine.
Now, onto the real hero of this story: my Hard-Matching script! Think of it as your trusty R2-D2, beeping its way through the identity maze. It grabs the right IDs, whispers magical incantations to Azure AD (think Force Persuasion!), and poof! Luke and Leia are one happy family aboard the Enterprise.
Here’s the spellbook:
- Summon the script: Download it from my code cave (https://github.com/wsherwen/MS365HardMatching).
- Feed it Leia’s on-prem login: Show the script where Leia plots her Rebel strategies.
- Point it towards Cloud Luke’s email address: Let it know where to find his X-wing hangar.
- Cast the unification spell: Run the script and watch the Force flow.
- Sync the final flourish: Tell your AD Sync server to do a quick identity dance, just to make sure everyone’s on the same page.
And voila! One unified identity, ready to conquer the digital landscape. Remember, Hard Matching is powerful, so wield it like a lightsaber – with wisdom and caution. And hey, if you get stuck, don’t be a Stormtrooper! Drop me a line, and I’ll be your digital Chewbacca.
Bonus Tip: If the user is hard matched and not showing in Microsoft Exchange On-Premise, and they had to delete the local mailbox, they can run my other script that enables the remote mailbox. You can find it here: https://github.com/wsherwen/Microsoft365HybridUserFix
Now go forth, tech heroes, and slay the chaos of hybrid identities! And don’t forget, a daily waffle a day keeps the IT blues away!
